The silithid are the drone-caste of the buried empire of Ahn'Qiraj, servants of the Old God C'Thun. They erupted once before, in The War of the Shifting Sands, and were sealed behind the Scarab Wall.
They are seeping out again through hive mounds across the southern deserts.
