What Happened
- The Well implodes. The resulting cataclysm shatters Kalimdor into the continents of today.
- Eighty percent of the night elf population dies. The site of the Well becomes the Maelstrom.
- Queen Azshara and her drowned court are transformed by an Old God's bargain into the Naga.
- Illidan Stormrage secretly poured stolen Well-water onto Mount Hyjal, creating a second Well. Malfurion imprisons him beneath Hyjal for ten thousand years.
- The Dragon Aspects grow Nordrassil, the first World Tree, over the new Well — granting the night elves immortality and a duty to guard it.
Why It Still Matters
The geography of the entire campaign is Sundering debris. So is night elf immortality — which was spent at Mount Hyjal four years ago, meaning every night elf PC is experiencing mortality for the first time in ten millennia. That is not a footnote. That is a personality.
