A secret order that invested the combined power of the world's greatest mages into a single champion each generation, to fight the Burning Legion unseen. It ended in the worst possible way.
What Happened
- The Council of Tirisfal is founded after the Troll Wars, drawing on human, elf, and dragon members.
- Aegwynn is chosen Guardian and holds the office for nearly 900 years, defying the Council's authority.
- She destroys an avatar of Sargeras in Northrend — and entombs it, unaware that Sargeras allowed it, and that his spirit has hidden inside her.
- Aegwynn conceives a son, Medivh, and passes the Guardian's power to him at birth. Sargeras passes with it.
- Medivh awakens possessed, contacts Gul'dan on Draenor, and opens the Dark Portal.
- Medivh is slain at Karazhan by Anduin Lothar, Khadgar, and Garona Halforcen in Year 3.
Why It Still Matters
Every war of the last thirty years traces back to this order's single point of failure. Karazhan stands abandoned and sealed in Deadwind Pass at launch — a tower full of a dead Guardian's secrets that nobody has dared enter. Aegwynn is alive, in hiding, and elderly.
