Primary Trades
| Profession | Tabletop Handling |
|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | Smith's tools. Armorsmith / weaponsmith branch at high skill. |
| Leatherworking | Leatherworker's tools. Dragonscale, elemental, tribal branches. |
| Tailoring | Weaver's tools. Bolt-based; mooncloth and shadowcloth need special sites. |
| Enchanting | No 5e analogue — treat as a downtime activity. Requires disenchanting magic items. |
| Engineering | Tinker's tools. Goblin and gnomish branches are mutually exclusive and both explode. |
| Alchemy | Alchemist's supplies. Potions, elixirs, transmutation. |
| Herbalism / Mining / Skinning | Gathering. Handle with a check against terrain. |
Secondary
First Aid (bandages — a real combat action in vanilla) · Cooking (buff food, campfires) · Fishing (patient, occasionally lucrative)
Rules of Thumb
- Specialization is exclusive. Goblin or gnomish engineering, never both. Choosing is characterization.
- Recipes are treasure. A pattern from the Thorium Brotherhood is a reward on par with a magic item.
- Gathering is a reason to travel. Arcane crystals in Winterspring. Black lotus in Silithus. Thorium in Searing Gorge.
- Crafting takes downtime, not a rest. Days, not minutes.
